About the Author

Almost as soon as Devika Fernando could write, she imagined stories and poems. After finishing her education in Germany and returning to her roots in Sri Lanka, she got a chance to turn her passion into her profession. Having lived in Germany and in Sri Lanka with her husband has made her experience the best (and the worst) of two totally different worlds – something that influences her writing. Her trademark are sweet, yet deeply emotional romance stories where the characters actually fall in love instead of merely falling in lust. She draws inspiration from everyone and everything in life. Besides being a romance novel author, she works as a self-employed German web content writer, as a translator, and as a faithful servant to all the cats, dogs, fish and birds in her home. What she loves most about being an author is the chance to create new worlds and send her protagonists on a journey full of ups and downs that will leave them changed. When she’s not writing, she’s reading or thinking about writing.

Sharing: Sneak Peek Sunday Snippet from THE MALHOTRA BRIDE

I am sharing an excerpt from my 1st novel, THE MALHOTRA BRIDE as part of Sneak Peek Sunday Snippet, as suggested by Romance Author Devika Fernando.

Here you go:

Akshay did not have long to wait. A group of students came out of the building. You couldn’t have missed Sunita. She appeared the brightest among the dozen or so students who stepped out.
He caught his breath as he blinked a couple of times to clear his vision. The formal studio portrait had done her no justice. This lovely vision that was walking towards him almost knocked Akshay off his feet. She was too busy chatting and laughing with her friends to notice him. Luxuriant dark brown hair hung to her waist. Her eyes were large and expressive, framed by long lashes. He could not miss the luscious lips as she pouted at someone’s comment. It was not just the boys who were listening raptly to her words.
Akshay’s observant eyes noticed her taut breasts covered by a plain yellow t-shirt. He moved his eyes away with great difficulty to check out the rest of her hourglass figure that was fitted into dark blue designer jeans. The idea of marrying this vision did not seem so farfetched now.
He shook himself. Looks were not everything. He could line up a bevy of beauties at the flick of his fingers. But they were quite empty and shallow under their lovely hairstyles.
He was definitely hooked by Sunita’s allure. He would meet her in the evening, despite a big family hanging around.
The students passed him by the gate. Sunita didn’t even turn in his direction. A mite disappointed, Akshay shrugged his wide shoulders. Time enough for that in the evening!
While Sunita pretended to be busy talking to her friends, she couldn’t help but notice the handsome hunk hanging out at the gate. She checked him out from the corner of her lovely eyes.
But he was too attractive! She had met her share of good-looking men. This one was a class apart.
He was obviously a couple of inches over six feet and broad-shouldered with a tapering waist. God seemed to have been in an extremely benevolent mood when he created this particular specimen. A very broad and intelligent forehead, dark wings for eyebrows, dark eyes, a long, sharp and prominent nose, chiselled lips, the lower one slightly thicker than the one above and a square jaw. Sunita noticed all this in a flash.
And here she was stuck with Akshay Malhotra. She sighed in frustration. Her chin jutted out stubbornly. She had her plan and was quite confident that she would send Malhotra packing.

Book Review: THE PRINCE’S STUBBORN BRIDE (Royal Romance Book 2) by Devika Fernando

I have read a number of books by Devika Fernando and have liked them all. And then she came up with the Royal Romance series. Keen to read these, I received a copy of Book 1 from the author – The Prince’s Special Bride – and enjoyed reading that one too.

At the end of Book 1, I discovered Chapter 1 of Book 2 of the series – The Prince’s Stubborn Bride. I had to buy the book. I did just that and I must say that I wasn’t disappointed at all.

As a regular reader of the author’s books, I must say her writing has matured really well over time and this book is a sure fire winner.

Princess Olivia who we met in Book 1, is widowed when her husband, the Prince of Visteria, dies in a car accident. She’s under tremendous pressure from the elderly minister and his cabinet to get married to Prince Sebastian who is considered a black sheep. Black sheep or no, Sebastian is still accepted as the heir presumptive to the kingdom because he’s a male. But Olivia could be stubborn, refusing to get married and doing her best to run the kingdom single-handed. She works hard at bringing order to the chaos in the kingdom, with Prince Sebastian’s unexpected support. But what of the increasing attraction she feels for Prince Sebastian? Is he really what everyone thinks he is? Is he as indifferent to the people of his kingdom as he appears to be? Read the book to find out more.

Phew! I just loved every word of the book. It has all the ingredients for a perfect royal romance—the right amount of romantic build up and steam peppered with intrigue and excellent characters.

The author has portrayed the relationship between Olivia and Sebastian so beautifully, building it up notch by notch, calling out to the romantic in me. To be truthful, I felt a little envious of the way Devika Fernando has handled the steamy relationship. Yes, I would like to write like this—very much.

VERDICT: A must read if you are a romance addict. I am one.

Excerpt from the book

Marie blinked some more, her feet automatically carrying her close. “What…what are you doing here?” Belatedly, she curtsied and added a weak “Your Highness”, remembering that they were not alone.

His smile widened. For a moment, he seemed to be drinking her in, his gaze roving appreciatively over her body clad turquoise capris and a white polo shirt. She felt his gaze like a physical caress, driving her out of her mind, increasing the heat.

“This is my family’s property. Surely I have a right to be here,” he joked mildly. For a moment, it looked like he wanted to touch her, but his hand fell back down to his side, clenching into a fist once.

“Yes,” she replied, still dazed. “But you’re a crown prince, not a winemaker.”

He laughed, and the sound traveled straight to her heart. “That is correct, but I do know a thing or two about wine. My duties encompass everything concerned with my kingdom.”

She nodded. Of course. And wasn’t that what made him the perfect regent? His interest in anything and everything, his willingness to learn and his readiness to get his hands dirty?

He ushered her into the building, her entourage trailing behind and exchanging looks.

“I came here this morning with the dignitaries from England and Germany to give them a private tour.” Christian raked his hands through his hair, as if the time spent with them hadn’t exactly been fun. “My sister told me you’d end up here sooner or later, otherwise I’d have traveled through the region, visiting some other vineyards and villages.”

Marie swallowed. So he’d stayed behind because of her. She felt thrilled and anxious at the same time. As keen as she was on every minute spent with him, this would lead nowhere and should not even get a chance to bloom. Why nurture something that was doomed to be cut off at the stem before it could blossom?

Are you ready?????

Book Review: SEDUCED IN SPAIN by Devika Fernando

I got a chance to beta read this book by Devika Fernando and later the final MOBI version in return for my honest review.

Alejandro from Spain is a hero to die for and the German heroine Emily is perfect for him. The author has brought you many scenes from this lovely country and also a lot of background about the hotel and tourism industry. Well researched plot with a yummy romance in the foreground.

Emily had met Alejandro in Valencia, Spain, nine years ago. He had broken her heart and it refused to be mended again. Now, on a business trip to a hotel convention, Emily meets the man who had stolen her heart. Sparks fly! Will Emily be able to survive this time round?

Alejandro has done the unpardonable. Despite being the son of a family owning vineyards, he takes off on his own to become an hotelier. That he has become a great success doesn’t seem to count. Will he ever be able to set right relationships?

This is a lovely romance between the beautiful Emily and a super hot Alejandro set in Spain. Even more than the romance, I was absolutely touched by the healing that takes place between Alejandro and his family.

This second book in Devika Fernando’s Round the World series is most definitely worth a read if you are a fan of romances.

Book Blitz: SEDUCED IN SPAIN by Devika Fernando

Book Blitz

Seduced in Spain
by
Devika Fernando

Goodreads

Blurb

Sometimes all that two people need to make things right is a second chance…

Nine years ago, Alejandro broke Emily's heart, but a business trip to Spain forces her to be in his company again. Old wounds are reopened and new temptations complicate things even more. When life leaves her no choice, she realizes that sometimes the heart doesn’t listen to the brain. Will Emily win the battle against her forbidden desire and Alejandro’s charm, or will history repeat itself?

Excerpt

Gracias, Alejandro. Buenas noches.”

Emily kept it short and simple, although a hundred words and sentences were waiting to burst forth and possibly ruin it all. She kept her gaze fixed on his chin because looking into his eyes would surely trigger something she shouldn’t be saying or doing. His scent was all around her, intoxicating her alongside the cava in her bloodstream. The corridor was silent, and she thought she could hear her heart pound hard and fast. Could he hear it too?

Buenas noches,” he said, his tone so clipped it was almost rude.

He turned on his heel and strode towards the lift, and she had to grip the door handle to steady herself.

Why was she disappointed? What had she been expecting?

Just when she straightened up to walk into her room and put a lid on the Pandora’s Box that should have been kept tightly shut, Alejandro stopped. He clenched his fists, and she thought she heard a muttered curse. In a few long strides, he stood right in front of her again, and this time there was no escaping his gaze.

“Feel free to slap me,” he said, and before she could make any sense of it, his lips came crashing down on hers.

There was nothing timid or soft or tender about the kiss, as it might have been after all these years. Instead, it was as if all the pent-up need flowed into this one touch of mouth against mouth. His lips were firm and insistent against hers, his tongue demanding entrance, and with a half-moan, Emily gave in and kissed him back.

His taste flooded her, nut and syrup and wine. One of his strong hands clasped her neck, the other hand gripped her hip to draw her closer. Their tongues met, and Alejandro angled his head to deepen the kiss. She felt it deep inside her, soothing an ache, stirring a fire, breaking the cracks wide open. She wanted more. She knew she shouldn’t.

Sharing: REVIEWS OF THE BOOKS I READ IN FEBRUARY 2016

Okay, February is a short month is no excuse, as it had only two days less than January. But I got to read only four books this month. That’s not counting the three that I have read half each of. Well, their reviews will happen in March I am sure.

So here goes...

Book No. 1: RIGHT FIT WRONG SHOE by Varsha Dixit

This book is in the likes of a Bollywood story and is a totally fun read. I received a paperback in return for my honest review for the Blog Tour conducted by The Book Club.

Book No. 2: THE KISS OF A VISCOUNT by Linda Rae Sande

I downloaded this book from Amazon and it had been in my kindle for how long I don’t remember. I just started reading it and got hooked right from the beginning. It’s a historical romance and quite hot at that. It has a number of elements that have been put together to make a delicious story. A subtly handsome hero who’s totally in love with the heroine, a supremely confident heroine who’s a beauty with brains, a bit of mystery thrown in and lots of love scenes. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this one.

Book No. 3: PASSIONATE LOVE by Shivangi Ramsay

I bought this book at Oxford Bookstore when I went there on February 29. Well, it’s a romance novella and cost me just 100 bucks. Yes, I did open a page in the middle to check for the language – just in case and found a perfectly written para. More fool me! Though it’s a cutesy story and not too bad for a novella, it’s been written terribly. There’s nothing been done in the name of editing and proofing. And why would Indians use phrases like “by jove” and similar ones in a conversation? The author is influenced by western books I can see. I wish it had reflected in her language instead of such fancy phrases that just cannot be incorporated in a dialogue between two Indians living in Pune. Wonder if Indians living abroad will use these either! Towards the end, I was amazed that the “intelligent” heroine turned out to be such an “idiot” in the name of conflict. Read at your own risk.

Book No. 4: SEDUCED IN SPAIN by Devika Fernando

Okay, this one is yet to be released. But I got a chance to beta read this book by Devika Fernando. This book promises to be a bestseller once it’s been polished up. Alejandro from Spain is a hero to die for and the German heroine Emily is perfect for him. The author has brought you many scenes from this lovely country and also a lot of background about the hotel and tourism industry. Well researched plot with a yummy romance in the foreground. Do watch out for this one. It’s set to release in March 2016.

AN EXCERPT - FROM LIVING WITH FIRE

Joshua was gaping at her, his mouth opening and closing silently like a fish out of water. There was a sudden increase in icy coldness, and he froze into a statue, his face now expressionless and his eyes drawn and unfathomable as always when he was deeply distressed or too emotional for his own good. “Can you hear yourself? You sound like some fatalistic, maniacal sect member or the leader of a dangerously foolish occult movement,” he said with that unnerving, neutral calm of his. To cover up the disappointment and hurt and anger at his reaction, Felicia threw her head back and laughed coldly, mirthlessly. She tossed her hair over one shoulder, stood up straight and stared into his eyes. “Thanks for the suggestion. I think I’d rather like that. An occult movement revolving around the power of fire. I’ll be the terrifying fire goddess ruling mercilessly, with everyone falling at their feet and offering me their heart on a platter. I’ll make the world burn until it puts the sun to shame. Want to stick around and watch, snowman?” As soon as the words had left her mouth, she wanted to take them back. What had she just said? This wasn’t her, this wasn’t normal, this wasn’t right! This was her Joshua she was wounding and repelling…and yet, she would not take the words back. Didn’t she have every right to behave like this? The choice is yours. Rise and shine. Go out and rule! The voice inside her mind was so powerful she half thought she had spoken the words out loud. Beside her, Kyle was cackling and clapping his hands, and her fire dragon was turning cartwheels a little ahead. There was so much heat around her, inside her. It needed out.
